About MedicoLegal Connect

Medicolegal Connect is a web-app on which referrers (government bodies, lawyers, insurance case managers, DVA advocates and general practitioners) can directly refer their clients to clinicians (psychiatrists), for criminal and civil independent medicolegal examinations (IMEs).

We try to minimise the data we collect and retain. Referrers and clinicians can use our platform without entering any details that identify a client/ patient. The contact details required for the referrers and clinicians, will be the standard contact details that most referrers and clinicians, already usually make public on their practice website or their own website. We do not request or store any credit card details.

The platform provides an efficient and transparent way for referrers to find and liaise with independent medical experts, from many different medical practices. Referrers, Clinicians, and their delegates can login within the button at the top.

Further information and three videos are provided below. One is a short introductory video, and there are longer videos available for a referrer or a clinician (and their delegates).

Written instructions for referrers (lawyers, insurers and DVA) are available here.

Written instructions for the NSW ODPP are available here.

Written instructions for clinicians (medical specialists) are available here.

Please contact us at admin@medicolegalconnect.com.au with any questions.

How does the site work?

  • Referrers (government bodies, lawyers, insurance case managers, DVA advocates, and general practitioners)  create a new referral for the report they require, so the clinicians (psychiatrists) can consider their suitability and availability for the case.

  • The clinicians available for the case can apply with their fee (some organisations will have gazetted fees). A maximum of five clinicians can apply for one case.

  • The referrer can provide information about the clinicians that apply to their client/ patient, and the referrer allocates one clinician to carry out the consultation.

  • The referrer, client or clinician can then make a booking for the client to see the clinician.

  • Referrers and clinicians can transmit documents to each other on a case. Our platform is not for document storage.

  • After the consultation, the clinician will prepare their report and send it to the referrer. MedicoLegal Connect does not receive a copy of the report.

  • After a case is complete, you can download or print a pdf for your records, and then delete the case from the site.

  • We try to minimise the data we collect and retain.

  • Data is encrypted in transmission and rest and stored on Microsoft servers located in Australia.

Who can have a registered (Login) account?

Clinicians, Referrers, and their delegates can have registered user accounts. For security reasons, users cannot setup their own accounts online on MedicoLegal Connect. Please contact us at admin@medicolegalconnect.com.au to enquire about an account.

What are the fees?

MedicoLegal Connect will directly invoice the clinician after they have completed a report and have been paid. Our fee is 7% (plus GST) of the fee the clinician charges for the report. MedicoLegal Connect does not charge any other fees to clinicians, or to any other users.

Can my administrative staff access the web-app?

Referrers and clinicians can advise MedicoLegal Connect who they would like to act on their behalf on the site, and we can setup a delegate account for them. Referrers and clinicians decide what their delegates can manage for them on the site.

Does a medical expert have to take on a referral?

No. Medical experts can review referrals for the types of clients they see, and consider their suitability for cases and their availability.

What IT setup do I need?

There is no software to install. The web-app works securely through the web browsers on your computer (mac or pc) or device. The data is stored on Microsoft servers located in Australia, and encrypted in transmission and at rest.
